FAQs

Is everything antique?

The majority of our stock is 18th & 19th century French antique furniture and all items less than 100 years old are not strictly antiques. Most people now refer to Art Deco as antique and the later exceptional pieces are normally classified as 20th Century Classics.

Do you have a delivery service?

We can recommend various companies that go the extra mile to ensure your purchases are delivered with the greatest of care. Door-to-door delivery for all Australian metro destinations is a flat-fee of $250 for larger pieces of furniture (add approximately $60 for rural locations as a guide and contact us for an exact price). For smaller pieces such as side-tables, lighting, etc. please call for an exact quote. This does not apply to Sale Items – just call for an exact quote on these pieces.

What do you specialise in?

French antique furniture including: antique beds, antique bedside tables, antique bookcases, antique chairs, antique chests of drawers, antiques tables, antique desks, antique lighting, antique dining tables, antique dining chairs, antique sofas, antique mirrors, antique sideboards / antique buffets, antique wardrobes / antique armoires, plus antique side tables.

Does all the furniture need restoring?

Generally most pieces will need some attention which is carried out in the workshops upon arrival in Australia. We always aim to preserve as much of the original character as possible. Original paint finishes are very popular and customers often use them to determine the colour schemes for their interiors.

Where does everything come from?

Mainly France, although some of the dealers we work with buy stock from Italy, Spain, Germany and Russia.

Has the furniture been treated against the attack of such things as wood-worm?

We only deal with suppliers that provide guarantees that timbers have been treated. Most fruit-woods such as cherry, walnut, etc., will have needed some attention at some stage in their lives, so we always check for any new holes – these pieces are then treated in France. It is also an Australian Customs requirement for all containers to be fumigated, so everything is guaranteed to be safe upon arrival.
